What we offer:
Piano Lessons that work for everyone
An individual-driven teaching approach ensures that each student has a great chance of success with piano lessons. Success here means both the ability to play as well as enjoy one’s playing.
The priority is on making students content, relaxed, and focused while building the skills necessary to play the piano well. Though the content of what is taught is the same for all, very different approaches are taken for each student depending on their capacities and personality.
Technology in the Studio
Recorded performances add music to share with family and friends. Further, the studio works with digital pianos, an acoustic grand, sound libraries, and software to enhance the playing experience as skill is built. Regular recordings in our piano lessons offer an extra incentive to practice well.
Technique taught clearly and patiently
For the sake of better understanding, the physical motions of the body are related to everyday experiences we can understand. Additionally, there is a focus on creating physically sustainable movement patterns. This ensures ease and freedom, allowing one to be expressive at the instrument.
Musical Expression
There is an ever-increasing emphasis on using music to experience a range of feelings and translating them back into performance. Indeed, this is the prized goal for all our students.
Lifetime love of music
The variety of music you play will help you grow and appreciate all forms of music. This includes music written over 300+ years from all over the globe in multiple styles from all the great composers in our tradition. It is incredibly inspiring to me to be able to teach music that has been inherited from the past. I love to pass this knowledge on to my students.
Improvement everywhere it matters
There are two ways to improve at the piano. The first is greater skill and ability. The other is our ability to appreciate our own playing even in its simplest expressions. In fact, the two support each other as one inspires the other. As a result, both are a big point of emphasis from the beginning.
Convenient Attractive Location
In an ideal neighborhood setting, we are convenient to 495 and 66. Students come each week from Falls Church, Vienna, Tysons, Mclean, Arlington, Fairfax, Herndon, Reston, Sterling, Annadale, and Burke.
Piano classes are taught in a nice home studio with lots of scenic woods around. Piano teacher Chris Almond shares the home studio with his wife Vivian who teaches Violin.
A well-integrated Mind
Learning to play over time, one begins to incorporate all the aspects of one’s personality into their practice. This includes the analytical, creative and often emotionally underdeveloped centers of our personality.
Although most people leave one of these pieces behind as they grow, piano lessons can help develop all of these if properly guided.
